Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment; but you humans do not.  Instead they multiply, and multiply, until every resource is consumed.  The only way for them to survive is to spread to another area.  There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern, a virus.  Human beings are a disease, a cancer on this planet, a plague.”

I have never agreed with a quote more than I do with the above one.  We, myself included, are disgusting creatures.  Ever since the dawn of our species we have brought destruction upon everything we have come into contact with.  The ground, water, air, animals, even outer space – none of these have been able to withstand our destructive nature.

Since the beginning we have fought each other in wars over territory, religion, race, and even minor disagreements.  A war has been fought for every reason possible yet we never learn out lesson.  Even today a pointless battle continues.  Will this be the way we end ourselves, in a war?

Perhaps we will bring about our end in another way.  The world which we rely on is quickly dying because of us and once we run out of resources, our death will be assured.  Once enough animals become extinct we will surely starve.  What will we starve of though?  Will it be a starvation of the stomach, or another kind of starvation?  I believe that humanity will starve in our very wicked souls once there is nothing left to destroy.  With nothing left to kill, we would simply go mad.

These are just two of the many ways we can bring about an end to our suffering.  Why can’t we fix these problems though?  All through schooling they have always said that History is to teach us to not make the same mistakes as the past.  Time and time again though we starve, go to war, cruel leaders are appointed, suffering is brought onto the world.  Are we simply too masochistic as a species to let ourselves solve these problems and live in a paradise?

Many people are said to become violent characters without any outside causes.  Nature over nurture, or nurture over nature is both argued.  When there seems to be no stimulus for how a person goes sour it is said to be nature, but is it really?  It could just be that they saw too much good around them and had to inject pain into their world.  Humanity seems to be this corrupt to the core, rejecting full happiness as hard as they can.

Another way we could end some pain is if more people took care of the Earth.  Now, there are plenty of ordinary people in organizations and scientists doing research both trying to save our planet.  They are trying to preserve our environment, save many species, and conserve humanities food supply but many people just don’t make it easy for this to happen.  I am not saying every last person has to be an extreme environmentalist but why do so many people pollute, litter, and hurt our planet?  I believe it is not because a trash can is simply an inconvenient place to put their garbage but they actually can not stand seeing the perfect beauty of the world.

Why does humanity have such a need for disaster?  We can see that we do just by turning on the news.  There are both good and bad things going on, yet they focus a thousand times more on the bad.  If both a cure for a major disease were found and a state official met a painful end on the same day, it is obvious that the state official would get a whole news story while the major cure would get maybe a small mention.  Although the more peaceful of a way the state official passed away in we would see that it would decrease in news coverage while the cures would increase.  This is because people want a catastrophe more than a miracle.

Even those of us who do not contribute to the problems would under the right circumstances.  If you take people who do not normally litter into a city full of trash on the streets we would see that much more of these people would discard of their trash on the ground.  The same can probably be said about violence, theft, and other issues.  I am not saying that people are more likely to join in this behavior if they are raised in it.  I think it is much more than that, someone not ever in an environment such as those would probably even join in.  It is not because they are raised this way, but because there is less of a reason to hide their true human nature.

I really do hope one day humanity can change, although it is highly unlikely.  Also, I want to make this clear.  I am not saying I am any better than the rest of the world, I hate myself just as greatly as everyone else.

We have the means to save ourselves, but why do we lack the will?

If Adam and Eve knew what they were unleashing upon the galaxy, they would have committed suicide before ever reproducing.

  1. I agree with part of this: People and events are only remembered if they’re tragic. Somehow, we ended up all becoming emotional masochists. We see the sorry state of the world, and we feed on it. We “try” to fix the problems. But how hard are we really trying?

  2. Reptar!! Says:

I like to push this stuff to the back of my mind.
    I’ll care about it later.

In other words I have no idea what to say to this.
So I’m going to nagg you, like I always do.

I soon hope you will quit, ya know, the “D” word.
Or in some cases, the “A” word.
No kids, I’m not talking about drugs or Acid.
You need to. It’s gonna kill you one day.
I’ll be there and I’ll know.
Then you’re going to be wishing you did.
Orrrrr, you’re going to be posting more depressing blogs.

I’m sorry that this was completely irrelevant.
    I changed my name.
    You know it’s me.
    But, they don’t (maybe?).

  3. Another great quote:

“What Hamlet said with irony I say with conviction: ‘What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable, in action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god!’ ” (I’ll bet Jeff will get that one, if nobody else does.)

    And yet another: “Faith manages.”

Without the perception of a better world, you would have nothing to rail against. Just as the idea that without hell, heaven would have no meaning.

I must also beg to differ with the opinion of “danube”. Only the tragic can be remembered? I fondly recall the fall of the Berlin Wall, the celebration of VE Day and VJ Day (not a tragedy for me), Mary Lou Retton’s perfect performance in the face of serious injury, the US winning the race to the moon, the election of the first African American President of the United States, and the daily sound of children laughing on Alcatraz island – and those are all within the last hundred years.

As Mark Twain noted in “The War Prayer”, there are always two sides to each prayer we utter unto God, but some fates are only terrible for those who bring evil into the world. Just ask Hitler.
